One Win Away from Playoffs
San Diego, Ca (09/11/2008) -
Today the San Diego Sailors are in second place in Western Conference and are one win away from clinching a playoff spot. The Sailors control their own playoff destiny and only have to win one of the next two games to get into the postseason. The Sailors also can clinch home field in the first playoff game by winning both games or winning this week against Eugene and a Cedar Falls lost to the undefeated Wings. Both Eugene and Buffalo have clinched their divisions and the first round bye. Every team in the OIF2 still has a chance at the postseason even the Toronto Assault who has recently went on a two game winning streak and if they win their next two games will be in the playoffs.
The Sailors are coming off a 1-2 road trip and a loss to the league's best the Buffalo Wings. San Diego was winning at half time in buffalo by three points but could only score two more touchdowns and they fell to the Wings 61-41. What made the difference were the three interceptions thrown by Sailors Quarterback Albert Gardner and the lack of offence in the second half.
This Sunday the Sailors will take on the Western Conference Champions (7-1) Eugene Knights at The San Diego Sports Arena were the Sailors are undefeated. The Knights only loss has come on the road against the Carroll County Cannons. Last time the Sailors and Knights met was in Eugene were the Sailors out passed and had more total yards than the Knights but were outscored by 21 points and lost 42-21. Albert Gardner had an excellent game completing 23 out of 44 passes for 225 yards and no Interceptions but the Sailors just could not score.
Help your San Diego Sailors get to the playoffs by coming this Sunday September 14 at 7:05 at the San Diego Sports Arena and cheer on your Sailors against the Western Conference Champions the Eugene Knights. Also all fans in attendance will receive a free San Diego Sailor's Rally towel.
